Introduction

THE CLUB
Membership of the National Cavy Club (NCC) is open to anybody over the age of 7, who is interested in cavies, purebred as well as pets.
The NCC, unlike the specialist breed clubs, caters for every variety of cavy and for every cavy owner anywhere in this country as well as abroad .

The aims of the club are basically to promote and encourage the keeping, breeding and exhibiting of all varieties of cavies to their standards of perfection and to protect and further the interest of all cavy fanciers.

To further these aims the NCC supports local club shows by offering special prizes, such as rosettes, diplomas etc., to be awarded at these shows to NCC member's exhibits.

In addition to the above special prizes, the NCC holds its Championship Show, incorporating the three Stock Shows each year (the Young Stock Show for exhibits under 5 months old on the date of the show, the Adult Stock Show for adult exhibits, i.e. over 8 months old and the Intermediate Stock Show for exhibits between 5 and 8 months of age) and five Area Shows. At these shows, NCC members can win rosettes and one of the many NCC trophies, some of which are over 100 years old.

OFFICERS OF THE CLUB
The Executive of the NCC (President, Vice-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee) and the 52 NCC Judges are all elected every two years by a postal ballot of the membership (except juvenile members)

The Committee and Judging Panel are both divided into regional sections so that there are local NCC Committee members and Panel Judges in every region of Great Britain. The Panel Judges can, of course, judge in any part of the country at any time during their term of office and they are recognised by all other cavy clubs in Britain as well as abroad.

No person can be nominated for any official position in the NCC unless they have been a continuous paid-up member of the NCC for at least three years.

The Executive elect an Investigation Panel to deal with any person or persons who are accused of bringing the cavy fancy into disrepute by, for example, showing cavies which have been improperly prepared for exhibition. This panel ensures that the cavy fancy operates at all times in a fair, honest and worthwhile way.

RULES OF THE NCC
These have been formulated over many years -the NCC was formed in the late 1800's- and there are far too many to state here.
The NCC Show Regulations are the rules under which NCC shows are run and many other clubs in the country have adopted these for the running of their shows. Proposals to alter or amend the NCC Rules and/or Show Regulations can only be considered at the Annual General Meeting of the club and, if passed there, they are sent for ratification by the non-juvenile membership in a postal ballot.
The NCC Rules and Regulations are available to prospective NCC members for inspection (SAE please to the Secretary) and a copy is issued to each member on acceptance of his/her membership application.

CHAMPIONSHIPS
The awarding of an NCC Championship Certificate to a cavy is the highest accolade that it can win. To qualify a cavy as an NCC Champion is not easy as it must have won five first prizes in adult breed classes, judged by particular judges with at least two wins at 4Star Shows and at least four other exhibits in the class.

CLUB NEWS
Information on the NCC's activities, etc. as well as being on this site, is also published every month in the Club Notes of 'Cavies', the magazine of the cavy fancy and the official journal of the NCC.
On top of this the NCC sends out a newsletter, called 'NCC Newsflash' to all paid-up members twice yearly.
